The Ancient Spell Tome

You find yourself in an old used book store, browsing the shelves for no particular title at all, just something to pique your interest. Upon turning a corner, you find yourself staring at a small room, lit from some unseen yellow glowing source, the books here look very, very old. As you browse the room, you dare not touch a single text, for they seem to be about to fall apart. You make your way to the end of the room, and a strange book sits before you, closed on an oaken pedestal. Captivated, you gravitate towards it, its strange magic seeming to take a hold of you. As you approach, the tome starts to glow shades of hot pink and purple, and emitting and eerie fog. Ghost-like whispers enter your ears as you find yourself reaching out to open the book.

You open to the first page, an introduction: It tells of a Lost Empire long ago ruled by a mad usurper, and his eventual downfall because of an ancient wizard and his spell tome. The land was ruled in fear as he had slain the beloved ruler and began a reign of absolute tyranny. The lands were cursed, the population starved, and the ruler lived on until he was encountered by the wizard.

Flipping to another page, the book tells a story of the High Realm, bathed in white light and golden fixtures, with marble-like stone structures. Winged angelic beings fly with grace through the sky, their beautiful features never seeming to age.

Turning again to another page, you are greeted with a strange illustration depicting a march of ethereal automatonic goblins, tinkering away at various machines and devices.

Finally, you turn to a back part of the large tome, it begins to glow and smoke even more now, ghostly whispers now become all-encompassing sounds echoing from every direction. The ground beneath you begins to shake, and you see before you the bookshelves fall away one by one, leaving you standing on a small stone platform with the oaken pedestal. Surrounding you is the cosmic landscape of black infinity, contrasted with swirling magical colors of light. You fly at through the ethereal cosmos at unfathomable speeds, passing through nebula and skirting event horizons. You see the birth of countless new worlds and the chaotic death of a thousand suns. Your eyes water, your chest hurts as take in this vast cosmicscape. What can only be described at winds blow sounds of distorted horns into your ears, gently pulsating your skull. You see entire civilizations rise and fall due to their own hubris. You see the repeating death and rebirth of the human race over and over, countless times, always destroying themselves in the most violent and chaotic ways. Your breathing is heavy now, and you reach to close the book.

You wake up drenched in a pool of sweat in the back of that old book store.
